KABUL March 17, 2026 - At least 400 people have been killed and 250 others injured, following an attack at a hospital facility in Afghanistan's capital of Kabul, according to the country's defacto authorities.

Save the Children's Afghanistan Country Director, Bujar Hoxha, said:

“It is devastating that a hospital facility in Kabul, a place people go to seek help, has been hit.

Civilians seeking care should never be caught in the crossfire. When violence reaches places of treatment and refuge, it represents a grave failure to protect those most at risk.

If conflict persists, children will be some of the first to suffer even more than they have done already. All parties have a responsibility to protect children in conflict. Save the Children is calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities, as the only way to protect children from violence and other violations of their rights."

Save the Children has been supporting communities and protecting children's rights across Afghanistan since 1976, including during periods of conflict and natural disasters.
