Save the Children works across Lebanon, including Mount Lebanon, the South, North Lebanon and Akkar, as well as Central and South Bekaa, to promote and protect children’s rights. Our Child Rights Governance programmes strengthen the knowledge and capacity of children, caregivers, civil society organisations and public institutions to better protect and uphold children’s rights.
The scope of our work includes raising awareness of child rights, enhancing national and local systems to monitor and report violations, and empowering civil society and children to engage with international human rights mechanisms such as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Beyond advocacy, we support efforts to improve systems that safeguard children and ensure they can access essential services such as education, healthcare and protection. Duty-bearers and institutions receive support to build their capacity to respect, protect, and fulfil children’s rights.
Children and young people are at the centre of this work. We support child- and youth-led initiatives and create opportunities for children to participate in decision-making processes at community, national and international levels.
Our Child Rights Governance programmes have resulted in several important achievements. Child-led advocacy has been strengthened through participation in high-level forums, including the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, the Beirut Marathon, an education-in-emergency event organized by the Geneva Hub, and the regional consultation on the Beijing Declaration. These platforms enabled children to directly voice their concerns and recommendations to decision-makers.
