Some children lost loved ones. Others still bear the mental scars of having lived through the terrifying disaster - the country’s biggest earthquake in generations.

As global headlines focus on soaring oil prices and financial turmoil, there is a risk of overlooking the real human cost of the Middle East conflict – the devastating toll it is taking on children.

More than 1.2 million people - a fifth of the population - have been displaced in Lebanon since 2 March due to Israeli airstrikes and forced displacement orders including 350,000 children.

According to the report by UN Women and ECLAC, more than 3,800 women were victims of femicide in 2024, and around 1 in 5 girls is married before age 18 — a practice linked to violence, school dropout, and lost opportunities. Acceso to Justice for girls and adolescents requires urgente attention.

Reath James Nyaluak*, 39, is a finance officer with Save the Children in Akobo County, South Sudan. Reath has been displaced several times since he was a child, however he says the latest violence in Jonglei state is as bad as he’s seen. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Climate and Health Project (April 2025–March 2030) is a five-year initiative designed to strengthen climate-resilient health systems in Malawi. The project will generate evidence on the cost-efficiency and feasibility of operationalizing an integrated, multi-pronged climate-resilient health system to inform national scale-up. Implementation is anchored in a tripartite partnership between Save the Children Australia (SCA), Save the Children International – Malawi (SCI MW), and the Ministry of Health (MoH). SCA serves as the Accredited Entity, responsible for fiduciary oversight and compliance with GCF policies and procedures. Subsidiary agreements will be established with the three Executing Entities: MoH (implementing entity), SCI MW (implementing and in-country channelling entity), and Save the Children UK (international fund channelling entity). Delivery will be supported by two procured partners—Catholic Health Commission of Malawi (CHC) and Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (CRECCOM)—operating across all six target districts. CHC will lead community-level interventions under Outcomes 3 and 4, including treatment of climate-related diseases, climate-resilient WASH promotion, and nutrition support for vulnerable households. CRECCOM will manage mobile health units and facilitate community training and rollout of the integrated climate and health Early Warning and Response System (EWARS). Save the Children Kosova/o (SCiK), within the framework of the CSO Strengthening Programme, implemented in partnership with 11 CSOs, is seeking the services of a local expert/company to develop the methodology and compile CSOs’ Alternative Report on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in Kosovo.The overall objective of this consultancy is to support a joint, inclusive and high-quality Child Rights Reporting (CRR) process that brings together project’s partner CSOs with diverse expertise, such as child rights, gender equality, disability, climate and environment, to analyze, document and report on the situation of children’s rights in Kosovo, and to formulate concrete recommendations for change.CSOs and CLGs in Kosovo already play an important role in monitoring the implementation of the UNCRC, in line with obligations set out in Law No. 06/L-084 on Child Protection. This intervention aims to systematize and strengthen these ongoing monitoring efforts by bringing CSOs together to produce a coherent, concise, and credible joint Alternative Report grounded in evidence and aligned with UNCRC standards and international accountability mechanisms. The process will enhance collaboration among civil society actors, strengthen understanding and application of child rights reporting approaches, and ensure strong integration of gender, climate, and child rights, as well as cross-cutting perspectives such as disability, inclusion, and non-discrimination. The resulting report will serve as a strategic advocacy tool to advance children’s rights at local, national, regional, and international levels.To achieve this objective, the expert will:Develop, in close collaboration with SCiK and partner CSOs, a joint methodology and workplan for the CSOs’ Alternative Report on the UNCRC.Participate in the Save the Children’s delivery of Child Rights Reporting (CRR) Common Approach capacity-building sessions for CSOs and CLGs, ensuring a shared understanding of the CRR Common Approach and its application.Support CSO partners, where needed, in the collection, analysis, and documentation of data related to children’s rights within their respective thematic areas.Ensure that the methodology is aligned with Save the Children’s CRR Common Approach, with meaningful consideration of children’s participation.Compile and consolidate the individual thematic inputs from CSO partners into one coherent and concise Alternative Report, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to UNCRC reporting standards.Integrate a strong analytical focus on gender equality, climate and environmental justice, and child rights, while reflecting other relevant perspectives contributed by CSO partners.Ensure the report clearly identifies key child rights challenges, gaps in implementation, and concrete recommendations for action by relevant duty-bearers.Work closely with SCiK’s Technical Expert on Child Rights Governance throughout all stages of the process.

More than 1,000, or 85%, of 1,200 girls who received income-generating support from Save the Children in Bangladesh were able to avoid marriage and continue with their education after being able to start generating independent incomes. A campaign running for 100 days from 27 November last year until International Women’s Day on 8 March has mobilised communities, faith leaders, and organisations to advocate for an end to child marriage globally with about one in five girls married before 18 – or about 28 girls every minute.
