We are the world’s largest independent child rights organisation, working in more than 120 countries, and working in Cambodia since 1970. Our programmatic work involves the areas of early childhood care and development, basic education, child rights, child protection, health and nutrition, child poverty, and disaster risk reduction.

What we do
Save the Children in Cambodia works with and through partners in four strategic goals:
1. Multi-sectoral integrated programming that supports children under 3 to thrive and reach their full potential.
2. Child and gender sensitive, shock responsive social protection for the most vulnerable children and families.
3. Safe, continued and inclusive education for the most marginalized children, adolescents and youth.
4. Children are protected by families, communities and duty bearers from all forms of violence, at home, at school, online and in their community.
Every morning, 12-year-old Ratana sets off from her home on Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake by boat. She’s heading for a floating school supported by Save the Children – but she’s got a vital job to do before she gets there. As she rows she picks up friends along the way – and together they work to clear the rubbish that litters the lake. “When we row the boat to school we pick up the trash, and put it in our boat,” says Ratana. She and her friends care passionately about cleaning up the lake because of the eco lessons we’ve helped introduce to the school’s curriculum. “I have learned about pollution, deforestation, and garbage,” she explains. “I’ve learned how to clean the environment.” She is also spreading the word to her community about climate change and protecting the environment. “The elderly and adults should listen to children because we are now aware of the environment,” Ratana says. It is children like Ratana and her friends that are this fishing community’s best hope of saving their lake and livelihood. A Principal's Promise: Ending the Cycle of Violence in Rural Cambodia
"Collaborating closely between the School-Based Child Protection Mechanism and the Community-Based Child Protection Mechanism is crucial for solving issues and protecting children from violence, while also enhancing their mental and physical health," stated Meng Heang, who effectively handled and referred child protection cases at his school.
Meng Heang is a 56-year-old school principal at a primary school located in a rural area of Kang Meas district, Kampong Cham, Cambodia, where some schools still face ongoing challenges, as many children report experiencing various forms of violence both at school and in the community. These issues persist due to the ineffective child protection system.

Harvesting Hope: How Climate-Smart Net Houses Empowered a Young Mother in Koh Kong
In the coastal province of Koh Kong, located in the west of Cambodia, 28-year-old Saychhun used to work hard on agriculture through the traditional way. “I often face obstacles in growing vegetables while striving to generate additional income for my family.” She recalled that her crops were often damaged by pests/disease, and heavy rain, which led to low productivity and income losses,” said Saychhun.
As a young mother living with her husband, elderly parents, and 4-year-old daughter, who studies in grade 2, the pressure was immense. Her husband works in construction, and Saychhun earned a living by fishing, but the fish stocks declined, they struggled to cover basic daily expenses, school supplies, and medical needs.
